Blogging trumps Print

26 Sep
I am just beginning to explore the world of blogging but have already come across countless advantages over print. Because blogs do not have a space constraint explanations can be richer than those found in print articles. Even more, with this unlimited space bloggers can discuss everything they feel necessary, and do not have to cut articles because there is not enough room. I have also noticed that the world of blogging involved updates and additions to posts, whereas once a print article is published it is on paper forever. This makes blogging more flexible and casual, and I find this conversational shape and style of blogs very attractive and even disarming. I relate much more to the fashionistas I follow in blogs such as The Fashion Magpie and Cupcakes and Cashmere than I do to the writers of the New York Times Style Section. Though don’t get me wrong, I can’t miss an On the Street by Bill Cunningham spread. (Note, it is very difficult to get the full layout from the newer On the Street spreads online as nytimes.com puts them into a slideshow instead.)

I feel the most significant way in which blogging trumps print is that in blogs the author is interacting with the reader, analyzing their feedback, and making frequent changes and updates regarding this feedback. In this sense, blogging opens up a discussion on a topic while it is much more difficult to achieve this sensation in print journalism. So what do you guys think?
